Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the University of Konstanz has been trying to help Ukrainians with various forms of support. One of these services is the Tutorial for Ukrainian Students, which Timo Loos and I, Anastasiia Androshchuk, have been offering since the beginning of May.
Since there are fundamental differences in the structural organization of the studies, many things were completely new for the Ukrainian students, in particular questions like “How do I get a student card?” or “How do I register for my courses and exams?”. Especially at the beginning there was a high number of participants and students were keen to ask their questions in the tutorials. As students of the Bachelor's degree in Economics, we were able to support our Ukrainian fellow students with organizational issues as well as with issues around economics and the German language. A central task was to share our experiences in the BSc. Economics here at the University of Konstanz and to help Ukrainian students choose the right courses and lectures for them. But the heart of the project, however, was the opportunity to exchange ideas with other Ukrainian students, make new friends and form study groups. We wanted everyone to feel that they are not alone and that they can get support at any time.
The tutorial will take place again this winter semester. Instead of twice a week, there will be only one tutorial, which takes place every Friday at 10 a.m. in room G 530. Although the tutorial is being attended less compared with the summer semester, my impression is very positive: many Ukrainians seem to have settled in Konstanz and feel at home at their new alma mater.
