The Open Science team of the Communication, Information and Media Centre (KIM) at the University of Konstanz and the Cluster of Excellence ‘The Politics of Inequality’ invite you to a fishbowl discussion in the Bischofsvilla Konstanz. Gabriele Spilker (co-speaker of the Cluster and Professor of Political Science), Thomas Hinz (PI at the Cluster and Professor of Sociology) and Anja Oberländer (Deputy Director of KIM) will discuss the extent to which open access can influence inequality in academic publishing. Martina Benz (consultant for Open Access at the university) will moderate the event.

Thomas Hinz is Professor of Sociology with a focus on survey research. He also heads (together with Susanne Strauß) the Research Group on Higher Education at the University of Konstanz. He is Principal Investigator at the Cluster of Excellence EXC2035 "The Politics of Inequality". His research interests lie in the field of survey methodology as well as in labour market and discrimination research. He is also member of the Expert Panel “National Research Data Infrastructure” of DFG.

Anja Oberländer is deputy head of the Communication, Information and Media Centre (KIM) at the University of Konstanz. She is a long-standing expert on Open Access and Open Science and was most recently head of the Open Science team at the University of Konstanz.

Gabriele Spilker is Professor of “International Politics – Global Inequality” at the Department of Politics and Public Administration, part of the Excellence Cluster "The Politics of Inequality" and principal investigator of the Cluster project. “Climate Inequalities in the Global South: from Perceptions to Protest”. Her main research interests concern both the determinants and the consequences of inequality. In particular, she investigates the consequences of climate change for migration and conflict as well as inequalities in perceiving globalization processes.

Martina Benz will moderate the event. She is a consultant for Open Access in the Open Science team at the University of Konstanz. She is also in charge of the open-access.network, an information platform for researchers and experts.
