Individual and contextual determinants of vocational choice and entrance into vocational education and training (WiSel II)

Duration    10/2015 - 05/2019

Within the first stage of secondary education, young adults begin the important process of occupational decision making. The decision making process is not only influenced by the students themselves but has interdependencies with the environment and other contextual factors like society, role models, and relationships to parents and teachers. If and to what extent the decision is adequate and fitting for the individual is not revealed until after the start of vocational education. The current project conducts a longitudinal study which aims to explain the interrelation between the different factors influencing the process of occupational decision making. Therefore, students will be surveyed with standardized questionnaires at the end of the first stage of secondary education and after the first year of their vocational education.
