Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
How can I apply?
Please apply via our ZEuS online portal and then send us your supporting documents. Further information for German and international applicants can be found on the university’s applications website.
Can I already apply even if I haven’t yet got my school-leaving certificate (“Abiturzeugnis”)?
No, please only apply once you have your certificate. You will receive your certificate in good time before the application deadline.
What language skills are expected?
We expect English language skills equating to “Abitur” level (German general higher education entrance qualification). From the second semester onwards, lectures will also be held in English which will allow you to learn the specialist vocabulary you need for your studies. You can also complete an English course for economists at The Language Institute.
Changing from another university and starting in a higher subject-related semester
- Also possible in the summer semester
- Application deadlines: 15 January and 15 July
- Admission is only possible if you fulfil certain conditions - please contact us before sending your application.
Recognition of previous academic achievements
We are happy to help with any queries about the recognition of courses which you have successfully completed at your previous university.
Since our department has a strong mathematical, statistical, empirical and theoretical focus, the recognition of courses which are application-oriented is in most cases not possible.
Please note the following:
- We must always and without exception place you in the next higher semester.
- In the first three semesters, our students must take an orientation test. To pass the test, you must successfully complete the following two courses: Linear Algebra I, Analysis I, Statistics I and Corporate Finance. If we were obliged to place you in the fourth subject-related semester, you would have to have completed courses equivalent to these before you change university.
Preliminary inquiry: If you want to find out whether changing university is an option (up to 4 weeks before the application deadline)
Upon request we are happy to send you a link to our university cloud so that you can upload all the relevant documents. We need from you:
- A comparison of the contents of your previous courses and our courses; please highlight in yellow where they overlap.
- A detailed course description for each course (as links in the document mentioned above)
We are happy to process your preliminary enquiry if we receive all your documents within a timely manner. Thank you for your understanding.
Applications
When applying for a higher semester via ZEuS you will be asked to list all the courses you'd like to have recognised. In case you haven't made a previous inquiry we kindly ask you to include the same documents we ask for previous inqueries. If you are admitted after your application, you will be able to download an overview of the recognisable courses in ZEuS. Please send this overview to us shortly after the semester start in order that our examination office may transfer the grades.
- Please note: courses at our university which you would regard as equivalent to your courses. There must be a 2/3 overlap to the skills (in terms of content and method) to be acquired in Konstanz in order for the recognition of your previous courses to be considered.
An application for the recognition can only be submitted together with an application for admission.
Grades presented later for admission in the winter semester must be submitted to the department by 15.9., for admission in the summer semester by 15.3.
