Introduction to Urban Economics

Course Description
This bachelor level course introduces some key concepts and major issues of urban and regional economics. It will cover topics such as why do cities exist, why are there big and small cities, why are some cities successful and some not, land use patterns, the existence of centralized and decentralized cities, neighbourhood choice and neighbourhood effects, location choices and housing, how do housing policies work, urban congestion and the urban transportation system, local taxes and local public goods.
In SS 2023, this course will be offered in person. Lectures take place on Wednesday from 13.30-15.00 in R512.

Examination
Written exam at the end of the course (80%).
Class exercise (20%), details will be explained in the lecture.
In order to pass the course successfully, you need to get a grade of 4.0 or better in each of the two parts!
